UNE senior Sarah Titcomb (HWOS, ’18) spends two days a week with residents of Scarborough Terrace, an assisted living facility for older adults.

ā€œIt's so much fun,ā€ Titcomb says. ā€œThe residents are a riot. They're all so different, with their own personalities.ā€

Her internship at the facility was recently featured in a news report on .

Titcomb spends most of her time there engaged in activities with the residents -- everything from playing the piano to friendly games of bean bag toss.

ā€œIn school we've learned so much about social participation and how important it is for wellness in older adults,ā€ she explains. ā€œTaking what I’ve learned and incorporating it into what I do at Scarborough Terrace has just been super beneficial.ā€

It’s clear from the reaction of residents that Sarah’s efforts are greatly appreciated.

ā€œWe really enjoy her,ā€ one resident told WCSH. ā€œShe’s a delightful person.ā€

Titcomb is planning for a career in occupational therapy after she graduates this year. She says the experience gained through the internship will be an asset to her professionally.

ā€œTo be able to actually get hands on experience within this population has been helpful all around,ā€ she states.
