Susan Gray presents at Joint Mathematics Meetings of American Mathematical Society and Mathematical Association of America
Susan Gray, Ed.D., associate professor and chair in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, presented a paper on January 15, 2014, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America in Baltimore, Maryland.
Developed in collaboration with co-authors from Regis and Merrimack Îá°®³Ô¹Ï in Massachusetts, the paper is titled, “Does the Type of Variable Affect Undergraduates’ Interpretations of Algebraic Expressions?†This research examines and compares college students’ uses and interpretations of generic and first-letter variables and categorizes the types of responses according to a framework developed by the authors.
